Akhilesh Kommireddy
I run infrastructure and build platforms.
I've been building and operating cloud systems since 2018. My work focuses on reliability at scale—designing systems that stay up, surface problems quickly, and are easy to understand when things go wrong. More recently, I've been exploring infrastructure security and using AI to automate repetitive engineering work.
Projects
Mostly Go and Python. I like infrastructure problems that stay solved once you've solved them — automation, reliability, observability, and tooling that other engineers stop having to think about.
RudderStack 2020 — present
- Kubernetes operator — provisions customer workloads and the infrastructure underneath them, across about twelve clusters.
- Customer onboarding service — generates the CRDs the operator consumes.
- Secret rotation platform — rotates organization-wide API and infrastructure secrets with zero-downtime rolling restarts. Also moved the org off GitHub PATs and onto GitHub Apps.
- Observability stack — surfaces what the customer data platform is actually doing, built on Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Pyroscope and Grafana.
- Ingress — holds traffic spikes of 120k requests/sec.
VMware 2018 — 2020
- NSX-T API documentation generator — built customer-facing API docs from OpenAPI specifications.
- NSX-T Ansible modules — let customers provision and manage their network infrastructure as code.
IIT Bombay 2015 — 2018
- AutoPerf — an automated load-testing framework that profiled multi-tier applications from the hypervisor to find performance bottlenecks. M.Tech thesis; paper at ICPE 2017.
Outside work
Hobbies — half marathon runner, underwater swimming.
I travel whenever I can. The list is long—from 5,500 m above sea level to 20 m below it. Every place has a story, but it's usually the people who make it worth telling.
